How did we get here?

It all started in 2014 with a 14# paralyzed Frenchie Kelly found in Florida. Because of her background as a vet tech and thirteen years of teaching severe needs students, Kelly knew she could adopt a special needs dog. When Kelly started posting in local groups about Dora, others with special needs Frenchies contacted her for help and advice. Seeing the need for a rescue in Denver, Rocky Mountain French Bulldog was started.

Captain was Kelly’s heartdog. He was a backyard breeder who battled many health issues. Kelly learned about many nuances of the breed first hand before Captain died of a chemodectoma.

After Dora died, Kelly and Captain spent some calm months just the two of them. And then he fell in love with sassy and spunky Milly who was to be a temp foster. Captain decided to adopt her.

Annie joined the crew after Captain died. She was a retired breeder who was positive for heartworm so came to live with Kelly and Milly. Milly loved her and Annie was adopted.

Kevin was born with spina bifida. His breeder reached out to another rescue who sent them to RMFBR. Kevin came in in January 2020. The plan was to repair his spine hole and then adopt him out. However, the world wide shut down closed all vet hospitals for non-emergent surgeries. And once they reopened, Kevin was the baby of the family and runs the house.
